Von Hügel Institute

for Critical Catholic Inquiry

The Von Hügel Institute was delighted to welcome two student interns from the University of Notre Dame (USA) for Fall 2023. Leah Brucal and Maria Murinova joined the VHI during the Michaelmas term as part of the internship programme through Notre Dame’s London Global Gateway.

Leah is an undergraduate studying Science Preprofessional Studies on the pre-medicine track with minors in Compassionate Care in Medicine and Poverty Studies. Her research interests include healthcare delivery, poverty, and education, and she has been greatly looking forward to working with the VHI and exploring new opportunities. Maria is an undergraduate student in the Program of Liberal Studies on a pre-health track, with a minor in Theology, and has an interest in languages, literature, and natural medicine.

Earlier this year, several new researchers joined the VHI and were officially admitted as senior members of St Edmund’s College: Paolo Carozza, Mihaela Kelemen, and Clemens Sedmak (Senior Research Associates); Scott Jackson and Carole Irwin (Research Associates); Stephen Chase Pepper, CSC (Postdoctoral Research Associate).

The institute also welcomed its first group of Affiliate Members and Doctoral Affiliates: Michael Driessen and Maria Devlin McNair (Affiliate Members); Sofia N Carozza and Peerawat Chiaranunt (Doctoral Affiliates). The VHI is also proud to have welcomed its first Distinguished Members, writers and actors Richard Ayoade and Lydia Fox.
