It is with deep sorrow that the Von Hügel Institute, together with the rest of St Edmund’s College, Cambridge, joins the global Catholic community in mourning the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis.
Pope Francis dedicated his life to the service of others, calling for a Church that listens, learns, and reaches out to those in need. A tireless advocate for education, dialogue, and the search for truth, he believed that faith and reason must work together to build a more just and compassionate world. His commitment to interfaith understanding, social justice, and care for creation spoke to people of all backgrounds, inspiring a global community to think deeply, act courageously, and serve selflessly. His witness will continue to guide all those who seek wisdom through learning and faith.
As we grieve this loss, we invite all members of our community to join us in prayer and reflection. The Chapel will be open all day on Monday 21st April, for private prayer. Candles may be lit between 12-1pm and 6-7pm. A Requiem Mass will be held in the College Chapel, tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd April at 6pm, to pray for the repose of his soul and the Chapel will remain open for private reflection and candle lighting. A Book of Condolence will also be available for those who wish to express their sympathies. All are welcome.
May His Holiness rest in peace and rise in glory.
