The 2020 Von Hügel Lecture delivered by Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald:

Christians in the Arab World: The Present Situation

This lecture will offer a survey of the present situation of Christians in the Arab World, ie. MENA: Middle East and North Africa. It will underline the differences in the situations from country to country. With regard to the difficulties, it asks what can be done to remedy matters and whether interreligious dialogue can help in these situations, and if so, in what way.

Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald is a member of the Society of Missionaries of Africa. He was the Director of the Pontifical Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies (1972-1978). He worked in the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue as Secretary (1987-2002) and then as President (2002-2006). He then served as Papal Nuncio in Egypt (2006-2012). Now retired, he resides in Liverpool. He was created Cardinal by Pope Francis on 5 October 2019.
