Papers from the VHI conference ‘Navigating Impasses in Bioethics: Rethinking Ill Health’ held at the VHI in December 2015 are now published as a special issue of The New Bioethics (Vol. 22, Issue 1, 2016).
The conference brought together scholars and practitioners from very diverse fields to consider the definitions of health and ill-health. Selected papers, introduced by VHI Director Philip McCosker, address different challenges and questions, such as the right to health and well-being in human rights discourses (Campos), the impact of technology and policy making on the medicalisation of health (Contino), the relationship between health and well-being in bioethics (Elliot), the role of vulnerability and interdependence for human nature (Herring), the phenomenon of conscientious objection for healthcare provision (Lamb), how new perspectives on neurodiversity and autism can affect our understanding of health and disability (Ripamonti).
To mark the start of the collaboration between the The New Bioethics and Taylor and Francis, the contents of this issue has been made available for free access.
