Dr Simon Ravenscroft has written a response to a recent essay by George Scialabba for the Luce Project on Religion and Its Publics, based at the University of Virginia.
Scialabba's essay, entitled 'Against Everything' and published in The Baffler, explores the social theory of the late Catholic radical Ivan Illich, focussing on his main body of work from 1971-1982. Simon's reply, 'The Joyful Uselessness of Ivan Illich', considers in more detail Illich's later writings of the 1980s and 90s.
Simon has also just published a review article entitled 'Irony as a Way of Life?' in the latest issue of Reviews in Religion and Theology, which looks at books by Jonathan Lear and Terence J. Martin.
