VHI joins Churchill 2015 – 21st Century Statesmanship steering group on Faith and Religion in the 21st century

The Von Hügel Institute has joined a steering group, which includes the Cambridge Inter-faith Programme and St Mary's University College, Twickenham that will organise a panel on Faith and Religion in the 21^st century as part of the Churchill Foundation's Global Leaders Programme. This programme will commemorate the 50^th anniversary of Winston Churchill's death by organising a number of panels on the theme of statesmanship in the 21^st Century. The Faith and Religion panel will invite key religious leaders of different faiths to participate in a number of seminars in Cambridge and London in order to identify the most important issues facing us in the 21^stcentury. The panel will produce a report of recommendations that will be added to reports from other panels.

2015 is the fiftieth anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s death. The various organisations that have been created in his name have come together in a unique Churchill Alliance to mark this date with innovative programmes that look to support education, leadership and public engagement. Eminent international panels are being established by participant organisations who will 'own' a global-strategic theme, and produce a short report in G7/G20 global leaders format giving clear recommendations. The panel phase will be launched by a high level figure in Spring 2015. Key panel events and the main seminar will be streamed across a global network, and the reports will be digitally and collectively published.  

Lord George Robertson (former Secretary General of NATO) will chair the opening event on 23rd October 2015 in London, which will discuss the theme of the skill sets required of statesmen and women in the 21st century. Keynote speakers will include heads of government level, and guests will include eminent experts, and directors and top panellists from participant organisations (see Churchill Statemanship Programme).

The aim of this 21st century statesmanship programme, with Sir John Major as the Patron, is to provide a fitting tribute to Churchill’s memory and which puts the finger on today’s top level strategic issues.
