The VHI is delighted to welcome Professor Walter Van Herck, Professor Heidemarie Winkel, and Professor Ralf Wüstenberg as new Senior Research Associates beginning 1st October 2017.

Walter Van Herck is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Antwerp University and guest professor at Ghent University. His research interests are philosophy of religion, particularly religious language and the concepts of faith and belief, and 18th century philosophy. He is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Philosophy and Theology (Routledge) and recently co-edited (with Dirk-Martin Grube) Philosophical Perspectives on Religious Diversity (Routledge, 2017).

Heidemarie Winkel is Professor of Sociology at the University of Bielefeld, Germany, and the recipient of a grant from the DAAD-University of Cambridge Research Hub for German Studies. Her research work sits at intersection of gender sociology, religion, and the sociology of Arab societies. She recently published ‘Multiple Religiosities, Entangled Modernities and Gender: What is Different about Gender across Religious Cultures?’ in the Journal for Religion, Society and Politics, (1/1, 2017).

Ralf Wüstenberg is Chair of Systematic and Historical Theology at Europa-University Flensburg and a well-known Bonhoeffer scholar. In 2013 he was a Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge and since 2013 he has been a Visiting fellow of St Edmund’s College working with the VHI. His current research focuses on the ethics of political reconciliation and transitional justice. The English translation of his latest book Islam ist Hingabe. Eine Entdeckungsreise in das Innere einer Religion (Gütersloh, 2016) is forthcoming.

The new members of the VHI were officially welcomed at St Edmund's College during the Inaugural and Matriculation Ceremony earlier this week.
