Dr Philip McCosker gave a paper on 'Music, Liturgy, and Paradox' at an interdisciplinary research symposium, 'Ascetical Practice in a Secular Age: A New Approach to Prayer and the Brain', in Rome in September 2014.
The symposium was a project of the Humble Approach Initiative of the John Templeton Foundation. The symposiasts, from a broad range of disciplines from philosophy, through neuroscience, to ethics and theology, all responded to Iain McGilchrist's groundbreaking volume The Master and His Emissary (Yale University Press, 2009) and focussed on the many practices of transformation to be found in faith traditions.
