VHI research associates present papers at the 'Hafis-Menschenrechtsdialog Weimar' workshop

VHI researchers Professor Ralf Wuestenberg and Dr Zeina Barakat (European University Flensburg/ VHI, St Edmund College) recently participated in the Hafis -Menschenrechtsdialog Weimar workshop that took place on the 23-24 of September 2020 in Weimar.

The focus of this conference is on human rights dialogue. Professor Wuestenberg presented a paper on 'human rights in the transition to democracy in Albania'. Dr Barakat's paper 'Reconciliation in the Middle East conflict: Is peace attainable?' led to a lively discussion on human rights and conditions of reconciliation. Michael Brand, of the CDU/CSU Bundestagsfraktion, was invited to speak on 'The Protection of Human Rights and the challenge of Religion Freedom' and his talk was followed by a general discussion by the participants.

This is an annual workshop sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. It is called 'Hafis' due to the friendship between Goethe and Hafis (the Iranian Friend of Goethe) and it started at Goethe Hafis monument on the Beethhovenplatz in Weimar.
