VHI's Research Associate Dr Elif Çetin has recently completed a report on socio-economic, political, legal and institutional aspects of migration governance in Turkey, as part of the EU-funded Horizon2020 RESPOND project Multilevel Governance of Mass Migration in Europe and Beyond.
RESPOND (2017-2020) is a comprehensive study of migration governance in the wake of the 2015 Refugee Crisis, funded by the EC Horizon 2020 programme and coordinated by Uppsala University. The project includes reports of Greece, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Poland, UK, Iraq and Lebanon. Dr Çetin's report explained the macro-level factors (constitutional structure, legal provisions, economic welfare, public policies, cultural elements) that have been playing a role in the development of Turkey’s migration governance structures and assessed the country's performance in response to the current refugee crisis.
Dr Elif Çetin is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, Yaşar University, Izmir/Turkey, and affiliated with the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul.
