Von Hügel Institute

for Critical Catholic Inquiry

Professor Gennaro Auletta (Professore Aggregato, Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome) will present his research on the issue of Human Enhancement (HE) with particular regard to the definition of natural law and human rights. Contemporary society is undergoing an epochal transformation of anthropological kind that will modify life of the next generations: HE aims at improving individual human performance and is brought about by science-based or technology-based interventions in the human body. However its impact on society cannot be detached from ethical and juridical issues, and it should fit basic requirements of natural law.

Professor Auletta is a member of the International Society for Science & Religion and a Visiting Fellow at St Edmund's College. His research interests lie in the interaction between philosophy, theology, cognitive biology and neuroscience.

The event is a public lecture organised by the VHI and will take place on Friday, 21 February 2014 at 17:00 in the Garden Room, Library Building, St. Edmund's College. The lecture is free and open to all, no booking necessary.
